Artista's Portfolio

10:45 AM Unknown 1 Comments

I thought of the importance of having a portfolio so I created a quick and temporary one. Although I was planning on taking my time on it but I urged myself to work on a short portfolio to give a general idea on my designs and style. Before establishing my small business, the first thing I created when I held the pen was a pattern design. I don't quite remember what was the very first pattern I drew but I remember myself drawing paisleys and flowers. Since then I knew what my speciality will be, it's patterns. I found it fun and interesting working with patterns.

Anyway, so I created a quick portfolio with about 20 pages and used flipbuilder to animate it and create it like a digital magazine. It looked clean and simple. I was truly happy with the result. Since I knew the basics of creating a portfolio, what I'll do next will be even better than this one.

I added a list of my current services which are not limited to those only. In my future blog posts I will showcase the different and variety applications of my designs especially the patterns.

Since this month is dedicated to patients with breast cancer, I decided to create new designs to help support them. A percentage of this month's sales will be donated to Hayatt Breast Cancer Association: http://www.hayatt.org

The Watercolor Trend

3:06 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Doing a little search I noticed that the current trend is watercolor. It's heavily incorporated in the modern designs including art and graphic design. So, I decided to give it a try and watch the result.

Instead of using the brush I went for a sponge. It gave a very good result in my opinion since it added a slight texture to each stroke compared to the smooth stroke of the brush.

I'll try this new technique of mine with real paintings rather than an abstract.

Weekend

3:08 AM Unknown 0 Comments

How did I spent my weekend?

The last weekend was one of the busiest weekends in my life. In fact, the past few weeks were a little hectic for me. I had too much work on my hands but so happy that I was able to finish most of it.

Even in the weekend I can't relax without having my notebook and pen at least. It's the perfect time for me to do my analytics and plan for the next weeks. When it came to work though, I didn't do much but surely am catching up these days.

Quick Gift Wrapping Paper

12:13 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Quick Gift Wrapping Paper

I used my inkjet printer to create a quick and easy gift wrapping paper. Instead of printing on a plain white paper I chose Ivory Parchment Paper. Its texture and ivory color gives a better result than the normal white paper. I was looking for something different and that's why I went with this.

Before printing, I took a moment to look at my own patterns. It'd been two since I started creating patterns and sold them so I have a huge library with many patterns to choose from. However, there is a specific style and color I was looking for.

Choosing the suitable patterns, I printed them and cut off the white borders (if there is any). Then, I brought my small box and wrapped it with the printed A4 paper. Since it was a small box I didn't need bigger paper. When I was done, I decorated with a white paper (I just cut a stripe from the white paper and wrapped it around the wrapping paper) and a metallic blue and gold ribbon.

And this is the way to wrap a small gift box quickly at home!

New Logo Design

3:51 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Logo Design

About a week ago I got an order for a new logo design. The moment I ended the phone call I started the brainstorming process. Certainly, I took notes when I talked to the customer writing snippets as I asked questions. Those snippets were what helped me during the designing process. When I first began working on logos I found myself not knowing exactly what to ask and what to keep on mind. I used to ask few questions that when I began working on the logo I realized that I didn't ask enough questions to enable me to work precisely. With time I knew exactly what I needed to do when a customer approaches me.

To be honest, logos were a huge obstacle to me in the past. Although I practiced graphic design since the late 90s but I never worked professionally. I took it as a mere hobby. That's why when I decided to open up my own graphic design studio I had to learn everything from the start. Never in my life did I create a whole image or design myself instead I used to trace and copy other images. But since opening my small business I learned how to create my own designs and drawings. It wasn't easy at first but now I find it a lot easier.

Personal App Icons

6:02 AM Unknown 0 Comments

This is my first time sketching an app icon.
I had the idea weeks ago but didn't implement it until about two days ago.
I know my coloring technique isn't superb but I wanted to experiment a little and evaluate my overall drawing and coloring skills. I think I improved a little but need more work for sure.

Artista on TV!!

4:52 AM Unknown 0 Comments

About a month ago,  I appeared on TV for the first time ever.
The preparations took about a week and during that time I was more than terrified!
I wasn't sure about the duration of the interview itself, but wasn't about to cancel my appearance no matter what. I think being on TV is the hardest thing one can experience. That's why I wanted to try it.

So, the interview went on about my hobbies and my business.
Will translate it to English on one of my future posts.

New Card Designs

7:15 AM Unknown 0 Comments

A while ago I designed, and printed greeting cards for Ramadan.
I created several colors including green, red, purple, and blue.

It's not my first time creating greeting cards since I did few before.
One of my friends requested me to create greeting cards for Eid and since then
I found it easy creating them.

52degrees

4:47 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Our new section in 52degrees.

Since the beginning of this month I started displayed some of my printed products in a Kuwaiti department store called '52degrees'. I have a very long way to go especially that I'm obliged to create new designs every month that'll show my graphic designs skills. With this I believe I reached most of my goals which is truly great.

So far my items consist of mugs, t-shirts, party supply boxes, bags, pens, and stationery boxes. Lately, I displayed some cards for Ramadan designed by me using Ramadan Lamps (known as Fanous). Since I'll be away for three weeks I won't be able to design and print new creations. Once I'm back I will, though.

Photoshoot

4:21 AM Unknown 0 Comments

It's time for some photo shoots!

Since yesterday I was thinking of posting new pictures on my instagram account but couldn't find a good idea then. When I woke up this morning I had no clue on what I should do. Should I create a new design? Or take some shots with my Nikon camera? Even so, I was determined to do something.

That was when a simple thought crossed my mind. I was fiddling yesterday with some box templates and printed a quick one. After I was done, I cut it and closed the box. It looked really cute especially that I used pink for the design itself.

And this was the outcome of today's simple photo shoot.

Since today's experience was successful to me, I will continue doing the same routine everyday.
If you guys have any comment, suggestion, or advice don't hesitate to let me know.

Writer

7:51 AM Unknown 0 Comments

My writing journey started when I was 18 years old. It's the latest skill I acquired. I got my art, crafts, and photography skills at a young age. I merely developed those old skills of mine to enable me to create modern and preppy designs.

When I first began writing, I got into writing lyrics. Although my writing was poor at that time (if I'm to read what I wrote back then I would tear the papers already), but I didn't stop. At first I thought of it as a hobby to practice whenever I had free time but then I got interested in bigger pieces of writing. That was when I tried online stories. I wrote a couple of stories but all of them were incomplete. I felt discouraged and demotivated.

After that, ideas swarmed through my mind inspiring me to write novels and short stories, which I did. Instead of writing few chapters, I got into writing full length novels and short stories. I was motivated enough to finish them for I fell in love with creating my own characters, plot, and storyline.

Then, I moved to writing short pieces like prose. I only got one prose published back when I was at the University. In 2009, I was at the library walking out when I saw this small journal book. I picked it up and looked at its content and noticed that it was an arts & literary journal. Since I already had my writing skill, I only had to think of a simple idea and turn it into a prose. I did that, sent my prose and got it published.

The last thing I got into was poems. They're the shortest pieces of writings I wrote so far. Once I started writing I just couldn't stop. Even if some time passed without me writing any piece I still thought of plots and storyline. From that time on I decided to continue writing until the day I am able to publish all of my writings.

Pink Hearts

2:30 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Almost forgot that Valentine is next month. I don't celebrate that day, but since I'm fond of hearts and pink I decided to incorporate the two in a Valentine themed digital patterns.

This time I'm able to create 20 different designed digital scrapbook papers. Whenever I want to stop, I find myself creating more patterns. Once I reached the 20th design I decided to stop. I wonder if I should create another color from this digital paper pack. What do you think?
